Layering and Stacking: How to Combine Gold Jewelry with Style
Several chains on top of each other, a handful of bangles on the wrist, rings on several fingers: combining jewelry has long been more than a short-lived trend. It lets you create new looks again and again with just a few pieces.
A few simple rules help make the result look harmonious rather than overloaded. In this article, we show how to combine chains, bracelets and rings with style.
Layering chains
When layering, you wear two or three chains of different lengths. Choose a gap of about 5 cm so the chains do not tangle – for example 40, 45 and 50 cm. Our guide How to Find the Right Chain Length explains which lengths suit you.
- Different thicknesses: Combine a very fine chain with a slightly stronger one.
- One eye-catcher: A pendant on the longest chain gives the look a focal point.
Stacking bracelets and bangles
When stacking, you wear several bracelets together. The contrast of different surfaces looks especially beautiful: a smooth bangle next to a link bracelet and a delicate bracelet with stones. Start with two or three pieces and add more as you like. You will find inspiration among our bangles.
Combining rings
Rings can be stacked on one finger or spread across several fingers. Slim rings together look like a single, wider piece. Note: if you wear several rings on one finger or a wide ring, you often need half a size larger. Read how to determine your size in our article How to Secretly Measure Ring Size.
Mixing gold tones
Yellow gold and white gold may be worn together today. To make it look intentional, repeat each color at least once – for example a white gold ring with a bracelet that combines both tones.
Avoiding common mistakes
- Too much at once: Set one focus – either at the neck or on the wrist.
- Same lengths: Chains of the same length tangle and lose their effect.
- No common thread: A shared element, such as the same gold color, holds the look together.
